Description
- Opalite is a semi-precious stone, which is a precursor to opal. Opalite can
occur in many different colors, but is not yet transparent and iridescent like
true opal. The red opalite is mined in Arizona. The opal red is characterized
by a bright, warm red tone. The pigment is transparent and retains some
graininess despite sifting out fine 63 μ. It is suitable for watercolor, tempera,
acrylic or lime, but not for silicate techniques. Even in oil, the color is easy to
rub on, remains glazed and has a particularly beautiful orange-red hue.
